DIY Cereal Box Bible Tote for Church

IMG_3583

Micah just went into primary as a “Sunbeam” this month and on the same day Quentin went into nursery at church! It was a good transition because I was afraid to let Quentin in nursery when there were like eight boys that were a lot older than him. Here is a picture of their first day:

All the older boys went into primary and now our primary is huge! (Well only compared to the other wards in our stake… it’s actually only like 35 kids but our room is small and it feels like a lot of kids.)

The new kids in primary got a Book of Mormon to take to church every week. I decided to make Micah a scripture tote. I remember seeing missionaries make these scripture covers out of cereal boxes for their Bible and Books of Mormon.

It was super easy. I just cut off the top of a cereal box and taped it up all around to laminate it. Then I punched two holes and tied a ribbon so it would be easier for him to carry. Micah keeps all his church stuff in it along with his new Book of Mormon.

I got this Elmo Cereal at the store because Micah insisted that it was the one he wanted. The cereal really really gross but it made a cute box! (It was definitely good marketing on their part…. the cereal is way plain… it’s like dry cardboard.) The scripture tote works pretty good! I don’t know how long it will last though. 🙂

Dallin is still in the bishopric and I’m still a primary chorister. We’re having fun! Here are two cute pictures of Micah and his friends at church.

Word Strips – “I Know that My Savior Loves Me”

I Know that My Savior Loves Me Word Strips-page-001

Someone posted this link on the primary chorister FB group about an idea on how to teach “I Know that my Savior Loves Me” from www.lds.org.

I made the word strips and decided to share them if anyone wants it.

Here is the word document for altering: I Know that My Savior Loves Me Word Strips

Follow the Prophet – Wiggle Song Cards!

I’ve been pondering on how I can teach all nine verses of “Follow the Prophet” song from the LDS Children Song Book which is the theme song for March 2015 in the current 2015 Sharing Time Manual: I Know My Savior Lives.

I guess it’s a new year resolution for me to learn all nine verses! I thought it would be fun to make it part of the weekly “wiggle song” choices so I made these “Follow the Prophet Wiggle Cards!”

It’s the same concept as what you would do with the song “Do as I’m Doing.” I made up actions that kinda associate to each prophet.

Hopefully it will help get all the wiggles out! 🙂

Enjoy!

2015 LDS Sharing Time Manual Songs

This is the CD that I made for our primary for 2015. These are ALL the songs in the 2015 Sharing Time Manual: I Know My Savior Lives. The CD includes the monthly songs, the songs that appear in the weekly sharing time lessons plus a couple that the primary presidency picked for the optional songs.  You can download the CD Cover and music in one .zip file here.

PS – It’s easier to email out a .zip file than burning CDs!!  I learned from experience. 🙂

LDS Reverent & Wiggle Songs List

I’m trying to figure out how to pick and teach reverent songs and wiggle songs.  I found a wiggle song list on SugarDoodle but I couldn’t find a reverent song list so I made one to match it.  I also colored this reverent boy picture from www.lds.org and took the primary girl graphic from Susan Fitch Design.

I am printing and laminating two copies. One for me and one for the primary pianist. Hopefully this will help us not have to scramble for song ideas on Sunday.

You can download the PDF version here: PDF Reverent and Wiggle Songs List.

These songs are from the LDS Children Song Book.

A Gluten & Dairy Free Thanksgiving

A couple of months ago, I realized that I was feeling sick after eating dairy or gluten. It was after a long trial and error to figure out why I was feeling so sick. I’m still in the process of getting a diagnose but at least a feel a little bit better being off dairy and gluten. This may be another auto-immune disorder to add to my great list of auto-immune disorders.

Last month, my gluten free friend and I went to the Gluten Free Expo. It was a lot of fun. Here are some pictures.

So this Thanksgiving, my mother in law made me some gluten free stuffing… which is probably my favorite Thanksgiving dish. I’m super grateful because pretty much you can find anything in gluten free now-a-days… well… except for butter croissants. I’m still waiting for the day when I can eat those again. 🙂

I have a lot to be grateful for. My husband has been so kind during my journey of finding out what is wrong with me.

My kids are so funny. They make me laugh even on days when I don’t feel good. Being a parent makes you have to work even when you’re sick but it’s worth the sacrifice because of the joy I feel when I’m with my kids.

I’m grateful for my parents who have taken care of me during all my childhood health problems and for the great doctors I have.

I’m super duper grateful for the atonement of Jesus Christ. I mess up everyday but I’m soooooo grateful that I can try again and pray so God can forgive me. Seriously, it’s the greatest feeling ever to feel forgiven. I’ve notice I’ve been getting better at accessing the blessings of the atonement. I can tell that it doesn’t take me as long to ask for forgiveness.

Thanksgiving really is a nice time to spend with my family and think about all the things I’m grateful for.

What are you grateful for today?

St. Louis Temple Pictures

Back this March we went to visit Grandma in Illinois. We flew into St. Louis. This was the second time we visited Grandma. The last time was back in 2010 (see post here).

Here is a picture of the famous arch. When we were driving around the arch I received the idea to create the WordPress Ward which is finally a reality. The WordPress Ward recently was awarded Honorable mention at the 2014 LDS Tech Conference! This motivated me to find my St. Louis pictures because I remember distinctly that right next to the Gateway arch is where I received the inspiration from the Holy Ghost to create the WordPress Ward.

At the St. Louis Gateway Arch Visitor Center, we ran into a group of Sister Missionaries on their P day (Preparation Day). We had to take a picture with them! It was so random.

The arch is a monument to Thomas Jefferson and the pioneers who went west during the  Westward Expansion between 1830 and 1870.

The Mormon Pioneers were among the first people to trek across the terrain to find a place to safely practice religion because of persecution.

In 1847, Brigham Young lead the first group of pioneers to Utah where President Young declared that, “This is the right place”.  Salt Lake City is now where the headquarters of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

The church membership is now 15 million and there are currently 141 operating temples.

This time when we were at the St. Louis Temple it was closed for cleaning but I decided to take pictures anyways! 🙂

I’m so grateful for the pioneers who suffered much to get to Salt Lake City! Their example and sacrifice is a blessing to us all. The church has been blessed because of the great faith of the Mormon Pioneers.

Happy Halloween!!

Our General Conference Hike

20141004-IMG_5212

The week before General Conference I’m usually feeling really down and I know it’s just Satan trying to make me sad right before a really spiritual General Conference.

General Conference is always a breath of fresh air for me!

Dallin’s research lab was going on a hike on Saturday morning of General Conference. At first Dallin really didn’t want to go and miss conference but then we decided to take a radio up the canyon.

20141004-IMG_5200

It worked out great! We got to listen to conference and we got to participate in his lab hike. Here’s me with a little handheld radio we borrowed from our neighbors.

20141004-IMG_5256

Micah, who just turned 3, walked 2 miles by himself! I was impressed.

During the hike I was surprise to hear the language of Cantonese being broadcast on the radio!!! I got so excited. I grew up speaking Cantonese and I thought it was so cool that the first foreign language talk was in Cantonese by Elder Chi Hong Wong.

There were so many good talks during conference!!  I can’t wait to read all of them over the next six months.

Another great talk was by Elder Carlos A. Godoy, who spoke in Portuguese, called The Lord Has a Plan for Us. My husband speaks Portugues so it was one of his favorites too.

Elder Godoy asked us a question about our patriarchal blessings: “If we continue to live as we are living, will the promised blessings be fulfilled?”

He concluded by saying:

We are children of Almighty God. He is our Father, He loves us, and He has a plan for us. We are not here in this life just to waste our time, grow old, and die. God wants us to grow and achieve our potential.

In the words of President Thomas S. Monson: “Each of you, single or married, regardless of age, has the opportunity to learn and to grow. Expand your knowledge, both intellectual and spiritual, to the full stature of your divine potential”

This talk was very inspiring to me because I felt like I wasn’t living up to my full potential nor trying to achieve all the promised blessings in my patriarchal blessing.

The main reason why I don’t think I’m living up to my patriarchal blessing potential is because I have no idea where my patriarchal blessing is! I need to request a new copy!

What did you learn from General Conference?

Ogden Temple Re-Dedication #ogdentemple #ldstemple

The Ogden Temple Re-Dedication is my fourth temple dedication I’ve attended since getting baptized into The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints only six and a half years ago. I guess it’s a great time to be a member of The Church because of the plethora of temples being built and the blessing of attending temple dedications!!!

Every time I attend a temple dedication, I just can’t be more grateful for the gospel of Jesus Christ and the organization of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints!! I just want to shout to the world that “This church is true!!! I know it’s true!! It really is!! It’s amazing!!! Jesus lives and loves you!!”

The minute I walked into my church house, where the temple re-dedication was being broadcast live, I felt so much peace come into my heart. I felt like I was actually inside a temple! For those who don’t know, Sunday Church services was canceled today in our area for the Ogden Temple Re-dedication. All members of The Church over the age of eight could attend the dedication if they had a temple recommend.

I went to the first session. I had so many favorite quotes but I’ll resist to only sharing my FAVORITE.

President Monson said “God gave us memories, that we might have June roses in the December of our lives” (paraphrasing James Barrie, in Laurence J. Peter, comp., Peter’s Quotations: Ideas for Our Time [1977], 335) then he added “Temples provides roses in every season of our lives!”

It’s so true! Every time I’m struggling or have an unsettled heart. All I have to do is go to the temple and I can feel peace again.

At the end of the temple dedication they always sing the song “The Spirit of God”.  The first line of the song is The Spirit of God like a fire is burning!  My heart was burning with the love of God and I was filled with tears of joy. It’s been a while since I’ve felt so much of the Holy Ghost in one setting.

I think as my years add up in The Church. I get used to having the Holy Ghost with me all the time and take it for granted. I am so grateful for Heavenly Father providing me with this opportunity to feel the Holy Ghost in abundance. It reminded me of the excitement of being a new convert.

I know that Jesus Christ lives and we build temples so we can learn how to become more like Him.  Jesus Christ is the source of peace and happiness to this world. We need Him and He wants us to go to His temples so we can be with our families together forever!!

Here are the pictures I took of the Ogden Temple at the open house at the beginning of September. Enjoy!!
