Irish Words

I will update my blog with new words I learn everyday while I’m in Ireland. I realized that it’s not just me that don’t understand Irish accents but they can’t understand my accent! I’ve gotten some pretty funny faces because they don’t understand how I speak. I just can’t pronouce their words correctly. I asked the bus driver if the bus goes to Slaney Road (I pronounced it ‘Slan’ ‘ney’)  and the bus driver said no and I got off the bus.  I was so confused then the next bus came and it was the same bus number. Again I asked for Slaney Road and the bus driver gave me a funny face. Finally I pulled up the map and showed him and he was like “OH! Slaney Road (‘Slain’ ‘Lee’)”. I got on and got off within a few minutes. I guess I could’ve just walked there. HAHA! Here’s some other words that I didn’t know about:

Buggy => Stroller


Soother => Pacifier

Brown Sauce => BBQ Sauce (Kinda… it has a strong vinegar taste to it)

Chew and Chat => Linger Longer (Mormon term for a social with food after church, except a Chew and Chat is more like a pot luck where everyone brings something and socials after church)

My little brother made this video of our family for the Downtown SLC video contest. If you could watch it, like it on Youtube, and make a comment. It’ll show the judges that people actually like his movie! He’s only in High School and he’s competing against professionals! Good luck Aaron!

Family Pictures: Big Cottonwood Canyon

My little brother, Aaron, took these pictures using a Canon 28 mm f/1.8 lens. This lens does a really good job with doing the fuzzy background but having the subjects be in focus. We went up to Big Cottonwood Canyon on a Sunday afternoon to catch the fall colors.

Micah just turned 1 years old and we take a lot of pictures of him. Dallin and I like to take pictures of our family so we can make a book of remembrance every year. It’s a lot of work but every time we look at our past books, we are grateful we took the time and effort to put one together. The book isn’t extravagant or complicated but it’s just a simple book of pictures and memories from the year. We do this in addition to our personal journals and this blog.

For all those who are curious, I used Adobe Lightroom 3 and Adobe Photoshop CS5 to edit and enhance my pictures.

Elder Holland CES Fireside

This fireside was a really good message about morals. I recommend it! Elder Holland is one of the apostles of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He testifies that there is a God and He sent His Son, Jesus Christ to atone for our sins. This video has a powerful message and many blessings.

I Love to See the Temple

I can’t help but writing another post about temples!

I recently took these pictures for a neighbor. Her daughter is turning 8 and she is going to get baptized and they wanted pictures for a baptism invitation. We believe that age 8 is the age of accountability and we don’t believe in infant baptism. We believe that all children who pass away before they are 8 are all saved without the need of baptism (reference D&C 137:10).

All others who die without baptism will eventually get the chance to learn about the Gospel of Jesus Christ in the Spirit World. We do baptisms for the dead for our ancestors in the temples. We believe in agency therefore the people we do baptisms for will be able to choose for themselves whether or not to accept the ordinance. We do not impose baptism on anyone dead or alive.

When we are baptize, we commit to follow our Savior Jesus Christ. Our past sins and transgressions are washed away. We commit to do the best we can to follow all the commandments and repent when we make mistakes. We promise to comfort those who need of comfort and stand as witnesses of God at all times and in all things and in all places (reference Mosiah 18:9).

See Inside a Mormon Temple

We just recently went to Brigham City Temple Open House. It was absolutely wonderful and beautiful! My baby, Micah, was so interested and intrigued by being inside a temple for the first time. Usually you have to be 12 years old, a baptize member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and receive a temple recommend by your church leaders to go inside a temple. To recieve a temple recommend you have to be striving to keep all of God’s commandments such as paying full tithing, attend church regularly, sustain church leaders, and keep the word of wisdom.

In the Temple worthy members of the church go to make covenants with God. Also in the temple, families are sealed together forever. It’s a place to feel peace and happiness. You go to learn about Jesus Christ and escape from the stress of the world.

The Brigham City Temple has not yet been dedicated and everyone is invited to go inside the temple until September 15, 2012.  If you want to go see the temple you can reserve your tickets online. This is something you do not want to miss out on!
