Christmas Card 2021

The biggest announcement is that we are moving back to Utah in June 2022. Dallin matched on December 15 with the Neonatology program at the University of Utah. He will be working as a fellow in the NICU at Primary Children’s hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah. I am so proud of Dallin for getting a match and fulfilling his dream of becoming a neonatologist. It is a competitive specialty with each program only accepting about two fellows a year. I really did not want to leave Indiana and we even considered getting a general pediatrician job because I knew going through the match again meant slim chances of staying. We cannot deny that we felt guided by the Spirit that we should apply to the match again. 😱 We saw so many miracles as Dallin submitted his application and interviewed for the programs. We continue to see miracles as we plan for our move. I am so grateful we matched in Utah where we have family and friends and not some random place off the map. I am going to make the next six months in Indiana the best ever because I absolutely adore this place and all the people here! God has a plan for our family and we feel peace forward.

Micah got on the school’s swim team this year and he has been getting so much better with his strokes. He has been reading all the Warrior books and enjoys playing video games and programming his Arduino.

Quentin chose to be baptized in The Church of Jesus Christ this year when we were visiting Utah for a family reunion during the summer. He also joined the town’s swim club that meets the same time as Micah’s swim team.

Emily started Kindergarten and has made so many friends! She loves going to school after staying home for preschool because of the pandemic. She loves art and loves to draw a bunch of pictures!

Jacob started preschool this year. He gets to ride on a “big bus.” It was a rough start but now he asks me when winter break is over so he can go back to school.

Cumorah climbs a lot. She is amazing at singing. Her verbal skills as a two-year-old is just incredible. She can sing about 50 songs from memory.

Lily Mei was born this year. She was 6lbs 7oz at birth. Labor was a lot harder than usual!!! She was sunny side up and they lost my first Covid test so I had to wait 7 hours for a second Covid test before they broke my water! So yeah extra laboring time because of a lost covid test but the recovery has been really good. She is our first colicky baby and needs lots of love from us.

Christmas Card 2020

We wish you a Merry Christmas and we hope you are all staying well and healthy this holiday season.

What a year it has been and it feels like we haven’t done anything but stay home which is quite a contrast to last year.

This year started out with me (May Bo) watching the news and preparing for the pandemic. I followed the news closely in China and I knew it was coming. Then just two months later in March the kids were switch to remote learning which was a big learning curve for everyone.

It has been a great blessing to stay-at-home. It has given us back time. I don’t know how we’ll ever be able to go back to a fast paced and busy life. All the extracurriculars were stripped out of our lives. We have nothing to do but spend time as a family which was awesome.

Dallin has been enjoying residency and is about to take his last board exam for medical school since it kept getting delayed due to Covid.

Micah and Quentin was at-home learning from March to May. Then we were fortunate to start in person school again in July. They don’t mind wearing masks or going through the precautions. They were just happy to be at school again. The cases has been minimal among the elementary schools.

We decided to keep Emily at home for preschool. So that has been an adventure. She is learning how to read and write letters. She loves writing letters to everyone!

Jakey is just rambunctious and playful. He is one smart cookie. He gets into everything. However, Cumorah is catching up because she is climbing on everything and move chairs around to get the chocolate. She’s just turned 1 it is quite impressive.

We have posted a lot of highlights of the good and the bad of the 2020 quarantine on Facebook.

We would love to hear from you so let us know what you’re up to!

Love, The Hubbards

Christmas Card 2019

So instead of sending all you guys this Christmas card in January (like we did last year… haha!) I decided to get it out by Thanksgiving this year!

This year started by finishing Dallin’s interviews for residency training: Albuquerque, Portland, Pheonix, and Tucson! We added on another 4,624 miles to our trip. We were on the road for three months traveling a total of 19,324 miles and completing interviews at twelve Universities. The kids loved it! We took the kids coast to coast to coast to coast! It was a lot of work but we are so glad we did it. We got to spend quality and quantity time with our kids. Both of our older boys were told to write their favorite memory as a school assignment and they both wrote about different aspects of our trip.

In March, we found out that Dallin “matched” at Indiana University-Purdue University for pediatric residency training. We found a house and bought it in April! In June, we packed everything up in a big 26-foot Penske moving truck. Dallin drove that huge truck the final 1,500 miles to our new home. We bought our house as an internet purchase so we didn’t see it in person until we walked in the door. The kids were professional travelers by the time of the move and they were super good on the moving trip. However, driving out of Utah was one of the hardest things I (May Bo) has ever had to do. Even writing about it reminds me of all the emotions I had that day!

When we got to Indiana we were greeted by friendly neighbors. To say that we love it here may be an understatement. We love the house, the neighborhood, the friends, the schools, and our church! Dallin LOVES his residency program. We feel super blessed.

Unfortunately, in March Dallin’s grandma passed away and then in April Dallin’s father passed away.

In October, we welcomed Cumorah to our family. Now we are adjusting to having a newborn around and enjoying all her cuteness.

We decided to ask the kids what they are grateful for and this is what they said:

Micah: My friends, my family, Jesus, Heavenly Father, The Book of Mormons, Veterans, People who died for our country, the computer, technology, the prophets because they teach us what is right

Quentin: Mom, dad, friends, family, our home, Christmas tree, video games, Santa, scripture study because it makes me feel lots of joy, toys, church because it makes feel peaceful

Emily: Jesus Christ died, pink blankey, Jesus is alive, sleeping, eating cereal, pink fan with butterflies, pillows that don’t fight, sharing, computer

Jakey: Toys, cars, trains, mimi, momma, dada, Micah, Quentin, Emily, baby, tree, cereal, chicken, apple, bike, nose, ears, eyes, hair, ice cream, belly button, toes, Jesus

Cumorah: milk, nini, mom, blankeys, being rocked (This is what the other kids thought she was grateful for… haha!)

We miss you guys in Utah. We also miss our friends we met coast-to-coast and overseas. We hope to hear an update from you all soon!

Love, The Hubbards

Graduation

Dallin graduated from medical school 2 weeks ago but we have been soooooo busy getting ready to move across the country for residency and helping the kids finish the school year! It has been crazy. If you want to see us before we go… you can keep us company while we move or clean the house. 😆 We wish we had more time to visit all of you individually but we’re taking off after Sunday. We won’t be visiting Utah for at least a year or more. Come say goodbye or visit us in Indiana! 👋

4th Child Pretending to be Only Child

50046926_10155648054406058_7672006197154676736_o

I am pretending to only have 1 child today while the older kids are at their cousin’s house and daddy is at his interview. Time goes by a lot slower with just 1 kid because he needs to be entertained all the time. I have gotten a lot of “Is this your first?” 😂 and “He is so cute!” Jakey doesn’t get this much attention when all his siblings are around. I usually just get “Wow, your hands are full!” or “Are these all yours?” 😂 I wonder what people would say if I told them he’s the 4th child?!

Christmas Card 2018

Hi Everyone!

This is a little belated… OK may be it is very belated but we have been relaxing and enjoying our time at home for Christmas and New Year. We were just trying to catch up on life and sleep. We have been traveling a lot since October for Dallin’s residency interviews. We decided to home school our kids for three months as we traveled coast-to-coast. Dallin is in his fourth year of medical school which means he is entering the “National Resident Matching Program“. Every fourth year medical student, who decides to pursue a practicing career in medicine, needs to complete a minimum of three year residency. These medical students apply across the country for a residency in their desired specialty. Some people interview at only a few programs while others interview at twenty five programs or more! It really depends on the specialty they choose. Dallin decided to interview at twelve pediatric residency programs. About half of the programs he applied to have a special Physician-Scientist track for MD/PhD’s. Dallin has currently finished 9 out of the 12 interviews. After the remaining interviews, we will complete our match list and submit it. The programs also rank all their applicants. March 15, 2019 is “Match Day” when graduating medical students nationwide will open their match letter to find out where they go for residency. It is a fun and stressful time filled with uncertainty and much excitement. We are so grateful for all the family and friends who have helped us these last few months! We are humbled by everyone who has message us, taken us in, helped us when we lost our luggage (… Don’t worry we eventually got it back!), given us advice, babysat the kids on the road, filled our callings at church, fed us, housed us, and kept us going.  We have traveled approximately 14,700 miles by plane and roads. We couldn’t have made it this far without you guys! Thanks so much!

Love,

The Hubbards

Dallin, May Bo, Micah (7), Quentin (5), Emily (3), and Jakey (1)

Christmas Card 2017 Back

2017 Hubbard-48.jpg

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays! Sorry for the late Christmas Card and family update. As you can see it’s been a little busy around here with a new little one.

Dallin: He is in his third year of medical school (post-PhD). He has rotated through internal medicine, surgery, neurology, occupational medicine, rheumatology and psychiatry. He is having fun working on his side business and research project. This year he was called to be the primary chorister at church leading the children’s choir. How he finds time to do everything?…. I don’t know! 🙂

May Bo: I have been busy running kids to school and teaching them at home. There is lots and lots of laundry now with 4 kids. The summer was really busy with soccer and swimming lessons. This year consisted a lot of doctor visits which took up a lot of my free time and it did not allow me to take as many pictures as I’m used to. The nice part of going to the doctors is that I got to run into Dallin at the hospital!

Micah: He discovered his passion for chess this year. He learned the game really fast through an online website called Chess Kid. We spend our weekends at chess tournaments and we are having a great time. Micah loves to read. He spends a lot of time reading and writing books. In August, he started Kindergarten but after 5 weeks we decided to advance him to first grade. Micah loves first grade!

Quentin: He is learning to read and is doing really well. He is on lesson 60 in the book called “Teach your child to read in 100 easy lessons.” Quentin’s strength is showing love to everyone including his brothers and sister. He loves to snuggle and play with legos. He really enjoyed swimming lessons this summer!

Emily: She loves being an older sister. She is girly as girls get. She loves purses, shoes, nail polish, jewelry, shopping carts, babies and pretty things. She is dying to get potty trained but we’re not quite ready for that yet. 😂

Jacob: We call him Jake, Jakey or JJ. He is just barely learning to smile. We love him so much and we are so excited he joined our family. We can already tell he loves music!

Enjoy this video we make of our little Jake! We love you all and love all the cards/updates we get from you.

Cute Santa

We had a cute professional Santa come to our Christmas party so I had to take advantage of the moment to take some cute pictures of my kids!

Santa with the littlest one:

Micah was telling Santa he wanted a robot!

IN3A1026-2

Quentin says he wants a Star Wars lego set.

IN3A1014

Emily didn’t care for Santa at all! She insisted on wearing her favorite Halloween skirt. She was born in October so I guess she must like Halloween more than Christmas?
